We will discover natural inks and ways of making them. Working both in and from the landscape, we will use foraged and organic cultivated plants and other objects to create beautiful natural colours on paper and fabric. Within the session you will create your own ink and some painted sketches or samples.

Sam Aspden is a PhD researcher, lecturer and specialist in site specific textiles and plant dyes and inks. During this workshop you will have the opportunity to view Sam’s sketchbooks and colour catalogues. This workshop takes place on a stunning organic land-based project, Common Flora, and some of the colours in this workshop will come from the site itself.

This is a great workshop for anyone who is interested in Art, Textiles, Drawing, Sustainability, Landscape or Horticulture. It’s perfect for someone who has done textiles dying, ink making or artwork before or for someone who is completely new to inks, dyes and drawing.

All materials are provided, but you may want to bring along one or two clean empty bottles, jam jars or glass bottles to hold your inks.

The session will run from 10.30 to 2pm with half hour lunch. Tea, Coffee and Biscuits provided, but please bring a packed lunch. This workshop is for adults (18+).

Our barn and toilets are ramped. Please make contact with us prior to booking to discuss access if necessary. We will do what we can to make this event accessible for all.
